The renovation of the M-Rad offices on Comey Avenue in Los Angeles transforms a formerly compartmentalized interior into a bright, fluid workplace organized around openness and collaboration. By removing existing walls and rethinking the spatial sequence, the project establishes a generous central workspace that immediately communicates transparency and collective energy. Natural light is drawn deep into the plan, while the high ceilings and exposed structure reinforce the loft-like character of the space.
At the heart of the office, the open-plan work area functions as a shared studio where teams can work side by side, surrounded by visual references and ongoing projects. Workstations are organized to encourage interaction without sacrificing focus, and the overall layout supports both spontaneous exchanges and more concentrated individual work. The ceiling treatment and suspended lighting elements add a subtle architectural identity while maintaining a calm, neutral backdrop for daily activity.
Balancing this openness, the program includes four private offices and a large conference room, all positioned to provide acoustic and visual separation when needed. These enclosed spaces are integrated into the overall composition rather than treated as isolated boxes, maintaining visual continuity through glazing and consistent material choices. The conference room becomes a focal point for presentations and group discussions, reinforcing the studio’s collaborative culture.
Finally, the project extends the workplace experience outdoors with a dedicated exterior area for relaxation and informal gatherings. This outdoor space provides a welcome contrast to the intensity of the studio environment, offering a place to step back, recharge, or continue conversations in a more relaxed setting. Together, these interventions turn the M-Rad offices into a cohesive, flexible, and contemporary work environment that reflects both the studio’s culture and its way of working.
